Heart Transplant Program

The Alberta Transplant programs endeavor to provide state-of-the-art organ replacement therapy in an atmosphere of compassion for our patients and support for each other.

Note: Patients must be referred by a Specialist in Heart disease. Patient must be capable of following a complex medical treatment plan. They should be emotionally stable, have realistic attitudes towards illness, outcome and transplantation. Patients would benefit from having personal support before and after transplant. Patients will be evaluated by a multi-disciplinary team upon referral. The team works to define the need, urgency, and feasibility of transplantation by taking into account the patient's history and physical condition as well as pertinent laboratory and radiological data available from the referring physician and the assessment procedure.
