Mission Statement:
To raise and manage funds to advance the position of the University of Alberta Hospital as a centre of excellence for patient care, education and research for the benefit of the people of Alberta and Canada.
The University Hospital Foundation raises funds to support advancements in patient care, research and education at both the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Priority is given to initiatives that fall outside the realm of regular government funding.
Over the past 12 years, the Foundation has raised more than $62 million to support the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, upgrade facilities and advance medical education and research at the University of Alberta Hospital. The Foundation is also the fundraising arm for the new Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a world-class centre of excellence, which is due to open in 2005-06. When open, it will serve cardiac patients from across Alberta, the Prairies and the Canadian North.
The Foundation generates revenue through gifts from donors, through the magnificent Festival of Trees and other special events, and from the many thousands of Albertans who purchase Full House Lottery tickets. In addition, accrued interest from the Foundation's donor designated (endowment) funds provides support for medical research and patient care programs at the University of Alberta Hospital.
Donations offer more than financial support for worthwhile priorities and programs. They also send a strong message that donors want leading edge health care and medical research to continue within Alberta.
The University Hospital Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees who dedicate their time and expertise to support advancements at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
