About to join us at the Sturgeon Community Hospital? Here are a few helpful reminders to make your stay a little easier.
What to bring
Personal care items such as toothbrush, brush, comb, shampoo, soap, etc.
About your room
On admission, you can choose between standard, standard preferred, or deluxe accommodation:
- Standard accommodation, the cost of which is covered by health care insurance, and which provides no additional services beyond health care.
- Standard preferred accommodation (semi-private $24 per day) includes a semi-private room, television, and daily delivery of the Edmonton Journal newspaper.
- Deluxe accommodation (private room, $40 per day) includes a private room, television, daily delivery of the Edmonton Journal newspaper, telephone, and a parking pass.
Personal belongings/valuables
For your protection, please leave valuables and large amounts of money at home. We encourage patients to keep no more than $20.00 with them while in the hospital.
Television
To rent an in-room television, speak with the nursing staff on the unit.
Telephones
To rent an in-room telephone, speak with the nursing staff on the unit. Please note that cell phones can be used in general public areas but NOT within patient care areas. Please watch for signs where cell phone use is prohibited.
Pay phones are located on each unit and in the main lobby.
Meals
The cafeteria is located on the basement level and offers hot and cold meals, snacks and beverages. Cafeteria hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Monday through Sunday including holidays.
Vending machines are located in various areas throughout the hospital.
For patient convenience, each unit also has a nourishment centre equipped with a fridge, an ice machine, a microwave and a toaster as well as a variety of basic staples and supplies. If you have brought in food that needs to be kept in the fridge, please make sure to mark it with your name and room number.
In preparation for surgery
All patients booked for surgery are given a pamphlet called Patient Information for Patients Having Surgery.
Accessibility services
The Handi-bus picks up and drops off at the main doors of the hospital.
As well, direct phones to the St. Albert Taxi company are located at both the main and emergency entrances.
Interpreter services
We can provide interpreters who are skilled in many languages. Please speak to staff on the unit to make the necessary arrangements.
Mail services
- We deliver personal mail to each unit.
- An electronic greetings service for friends and family wanting to send well wishes to their loved ones who are inpatients is also available.
Newspapers
Newspapers are available for purchase in the hospital's gift shop. Patients who have chosen a "preferred accommodation" package have the newspaper delivered to their room.

Parking
Our public parking is coin operated and is located west of the main building. Weekly and monthly parking passes are available at the switchboard or through patient registration.
Pastoral care
Located on the lower level, past the cafeteria, the Prayer Centre is a place of quiet. It is available at all times for people of all faiths.
Patient education – before and after surgery or treatment
Follow all the instructions provided by your physician. Specific instructions will be given to you following surgery or treatment.

Security
Our security officers are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Lost and found
To check for missing items, call security at 418-8245. For your protection, please leave valuables and large amounts of money at home. We encourage patients to limit themselves to $20.00 while in the hospital.
