Volunteers at Alberta Hospital Edmonton are caring, committed individuals who enhance the lives of our patients. They assist with inpatient programs at the hospital site in north-east Edmonton and with community programs, located downtown.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Recreation Programs –Volunteers assist with a variety of leisure activities from sports to art, community outings, bingo and dances.
One to One Visitors – Volunteers are paired with a specific client. Volunteer and client meet weekly to enjoy activities and work towards goals.
Unit Visitors – Volunteers are assigned to a patient care unit and spend time visiting and enjoying activities with the patients.
Pastoral and Spiritual Services – Volunteers accompany patients to chapel services, provide musical accompaniment and assist people to participate in services.
Research - Volunteers assist with a variety of research and quality improvement programs. Tasks may include data entry, literature searches, data analysis, developing charts and graphs, and a variety of other tasks.
Vocational Programs -Volunteers assist staff in helping patients who are developing work- related skills in the used clothing shop, coffee shop, crafts area and greenhouse.

What's involved in becoming a Volunteer?
Volunteers share a minimum of 2-3 hours per week as a volunteer. Placements are available during the day and evening, seven days a week.
As part of our commitment to providing a safe environment for our clients, all volunteers will be required to complete several steps before being placed as a volunteer.
- Submit an application form or resume.
- Meet with the volunteer coordinator for an interview.
- Provide contact information for two references.
- Provide information for the completion of a security clearance.
- Attend a volunteer orientation session.
