The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute will be a centre for excellence in heart disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and research.
The 132-bed heart institute is the first of its kind in Western Canada and will provide health services to Edmonton and area, northern and central Alberta, as well as the prairies and northern Canada. It is also one of the few institutes in the world to provide cardiac care to both adult and pediatric patients under the same roof.
As a major research centre and training ground for the heart specialists of the future, the heart institute puts Edmonton on the map as a cardiac centre of excellence.
