Short Stay Unit

Acute-care service for patients who require a short stay in hospital

MazankowskiThe Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute's Short Stay Unit on the fifth floor will open as a four-bed unit and has the capacity for eight beds. This adult unit receives patients who require acute-care services for less than 24 hours post procedure. Patients who have received angioplasty, implantable pacemakers and defibrillators, or other less-invasive procedures often receive care in the Short Stay Unit.

The Short Stay Unit has an integral relationship with other departments, such as the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Cardiology Inpatient Units, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, and the Emergency Department.

Visiting Hours
Although we encourage family members and friends to visit between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., we work with visitors to facilitate hours that benefit both schedules and healing. Our philosophy on visiting hours is patient focused and family centred.

Where can I find more information?
Capital Health and other organizations support online resources on heart health. These resources should be used as a general guideline only. Individual assessment, interpretations, and advice by your cardiologist should always be your most important resource.
