Advanced monitoring and care for patients receiving cardiac surgery and cardiac-related transplants
The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute's fourth-floor Cardiovascular Surgery Inpatient Unit will open as a 38-bed unit and has the capacity for 50 beds. This adult unit provides pre and post surgical care to patients receiving open-heart surgery, and transplants including heart, lung, and heart/lung. Following the routine postoperative stay in the Intensive Care unit, the Cardiovascular Surgery Inpatient Unit provides care to patients who require extra clinical support with the ability to perform aspects of their own care, while being closely monitored. The multi- disciplinary team supports patients and their families through the continuum of care from diagnosis to intervention.
Visiting Hours
At the Cardiovascular Surgery Inpatient Unit, we work with families to facilitate visiting hours and can accommodate most schedules. Our philosophy on visiting hours is patient focused and family centred.

Where can I find more information?
Capital Health and other organizations support online resources on heart disease and heart health. These resources should be used as a general guideline only. Individual assessment, interpretations, and advice by your cardiologist should always be your most important resource.
