What is RAP?
The "Roaring Adventures of Puff" or "RAP" is a fun, interactive education program for children in grades 1-6, who have asthma.
In six one-hour sessions packed with games and activities, children learn how to better manage their asthma. Puff the Dino models and reinforces management skills, tools and strategies.
RAP, developed by the Alberta Asthma Centre, is based on the Canadian Consensus Guidelines for Asthma Care. Through the assistance of corporate sponsors, RAP is provided at no cost by Capital Health's Community Rehabilitation Program.
What RAP Tackles?
- What is Asthma? – Children learn about the changes that occur in their lungs when asthma starts to bother them.
- Triggers – Children identify what triggers their asthma and discuss ways to avoid their triggers.
- Medications – Children learn why they need medication, how the medication works, and the proper use of inhalers.
- Action Plan – Children learn how an action plan can help them to manage their asthma.
- Keeping Active – Children are encouraged to talk about how asthma affects their life and ways to keep healthy.
