In the 2006-2007 school year, Community Health Services School Nursing has a new focus and will work with school communities to incorporate specific Population Health Strategies (e.g. health promotional activities) throughout the Capital Health region.
The delivery of regular school health programs such as immunization and individual service requests will continue.
From January through April 2007, the school nursing focus will shift to a specific Population Health theme per month as outlined in the Alberta Education Health & Life Skills curriculum guide.
- January will focus on Tobacco Reduction – Team Leader, Marg Budd
- February will focus on Mental Health Promotion – Team Leader, Sharon Boechler
- March will focus on Health Eating, Active Living – Team Leader, Vel Thompson
- April will focus on Injury Prevention – Team Leader, Lacey Hoyland
The Health Talk newsletter will publish a Special Edition in each of these four months. School nurses will be in contact with school staff to discuss plans for the theme and activities or resources to promote the topics.
Look for information and resources on these themes on the school health website at /schoolsandpreschools
Community Health Services will also profile these themes through community events.
