What is Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are designed to help you return to a full and active lifestyle. A team of specialists will help you and your family including doctors, nurses, exercise experts, occupational therapists, counselors and dietitians. The program length is flexible, usually four to six weeks for 2-3 times a week (1-2 hours a day). For people who have time or travel considerations, compressed programs of one or two weeks are also available.

There are two Outpatient Cardiac Rehab Programs in the Edmonton area:

Other programs are available in Alberta, although they do vary in what the program offers. Talk with your family doctor to find out what is available and for a referral.

Who can Attend?

Everyone who has heart problems including heart attacks, bypass operations, angina, angioplasty and valve surgery may attend an Outpatient Cardiac Rehab Program.

How can I be Referred?

You will need to be referred by your family doctor.
