What is Sotalol Used For?
Sotalol is used to treat irregular heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Sotalol will help your heart beat at a normal, regular pace. This medication will also slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure.
How Do You Take Sotalol?
Take this medication according to your prescription label. It is best to take sotalol on an empty stomach, 1 - 2 hours before meals.
What Special Instructions Do You Need To Know?
- Try to take your medication at the same time each day. If you miss a dose, do not take 2 doses at the same time.
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- DO NOT stop taking this medication unless your doctor tells you to. Your condition may worsen if you stop taking Sotalol abruptly.
Are There Side Effects From Taking Sotalol?
The following side effects may occur:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Cold hands or feet
- Decrease or loss of sexual function
Check with your doctor if they do not go away or are bothersome. If you notice other side effects not listed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
When Should You Call Your Doctor?
Tell your doctor right away if you have:
- Difficulty breathing
- Severe or ongoing dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting
- Prolonged or severe vomiting and diarrhea
- Swelling of your feet or ankles
