Other Names: Lanoxin, Novodigoxin
What is Digoxin Used For?
Digoxin is used to slow the heart rate of people who have atrial fibrillation or an irregular heart beat. Digoxin is also used to reduce symptoms of congestive heart failure by helping the heart pump with greater strength.
How Do You Take Digoxin?
Take this medication at the same time every day. Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking Digoxin. Antacids can lower the effectiveness of Digoxin by decreasing the amount absorbed from your stomach into your bloodstream. Your doctor may occasionally order a blood test to check the amount of Digoxin in your blood.
What Special Instructions Do You Need To Know?
Try not to miss any doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time.
Are There Side Effects From Taking Digoxin?
Contact your doctor if you develop any of the following side effects:
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Tiredness or weakness
- Blurred vision or "yellow vision" (halos around objects)
- Diarrhea
- Irregular heart beat or fainting
