Amlodipine (Norvasc)

Other Names: Norvasc

What is Amlodipine Used For?

Amlodipine is one of a class of drug called Calcium Channel Blockers. Amlodipine helps relieve and control angina by relaxing blood vessels in the heart and the rest of your body. This results in an increased supply of blood and oxygen to your heart and also decreases the workload on your heart. Because Amlodipine relaxes blood vessels, it is also used to treat high blood pressure.

How Do You Take Amlodipine?

Take this medication at the same time every day. Amlodipine may be taken with or without food. You may want to try taking it with food if it upsets your stomach.

What Special Instructions Do You Need To Know?

Try not to miss any doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time.

Are There Side Effects From Taking Amlodipine?

The most common side effects of Amlodipine are headache, flushing and/or swelling in the legs or feet. These side effects usually do not need medical attention. If these symptoms continue or become bothersome, contact your doctor.

Other possible side effects include:

  • Dizziness or light-headedness
