International recruitment
In order to practice in Alberta, Canada, registration or a valid permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and/or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. An initial application fee is required before starting the formal process of assessing your qualifications. This fee is paid by the applicant and not reimbursed by Capital Health. If your first language is not English, the associations also require English language testing, namely the TSE and TOEFEL, prior to awarding the temporary permit.

Capital Health will only consider those nurses who have been assessed as eligible by the CARNA and/or CRPNA for licensure. Proof of this eligibility should be submitted with the resume for consideration.
Once an offer is extended, other conditions of employment include:
- A current (within 12 months) certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- A satisfactory criminal records check (within 6 months of date of issue)

Capital Health is in a position to successfully obtain work authorization from Human Resources Development Canada for a one year temporary work visa for successful international nursing candidates.
