Family-centred health services for children are available at all hospitals in the Capital Health region. The Stollery Children's Hospital located at the University of Alberta Hospital, is the region's full-service pediatric hospital, caring for children from northern and central Alberta, the western provinces and northern Canada.
The Stollery provides specialized services to children, and is the referral centre for children's heart surgery in Western Canada. The Stollery is also a national leader in organ transplantation for children. Capital Health hospitals provide inpatient care for children in Pediatric Inpatient Units. The Royal Alexandra Hospital is also home to Adoption, Breastfeeding, Asthma and Neurodevelopment clinics. The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital focuses on high-level rehabilitation programs and mental health services for children.
Expert child health services are offered at other facilities in the region as well. Childhood diseases and conditions are treated by expert health professionals. Child and adolescent health teams can be found throughout Capital Health. These multidisciplinary teams work in close collaboration with families to deal with children's health issues.
Support for family members and loved ones is an integral part of family-centred health care. A child's parents and family are considered to be full and active members of their child's health care team at Capital Health.
